auto-emotive

Another in a series of letters to the editor that didn't get published...

Susan Swartz writes a very moving article (Dents and scratches can be patched... Friday June 27, 2008. Sorry no link) about how things can easily fall apart, how we can lose faith and ignore the deep connections we make with things in our lives.

I agree wholeheartedly with her sentiment, but the observation I can't help make is informed by the news in the rest of the paper: high gas process, global warming, new carbon taxes. You see, the object of Ms Swartz's article is her car.

How can we expect to make any headway on any of the above mentioned issues if we are so attached, physically and emotionally, to one of the main culprits? Perhaps this is the first thing that needs to change.

I look forward to a similar article in the (hopefully not too distant) future where the topic of the writer's affection is a bicycle.
